Moderator's Help File

If you are interested in moderating a project for KIDPROJ here are some things to keep in mind that will help you run a smooth project:

  1. Choose a topic that will invite participation from a wide audience keeping in mind that KIDLINK is for kids up to and including age 18 from all over the world. We do not limit our projects to only a few countries. In order to participate, students must answer the four KIDLINK questions:
    1. Who am I?
    2. What do I want to be when I grow up?
    3. How do I want the world to be better when I'm grown up?
    4. What can I do now to make this happen?

  2. Follow the Kidproj project guidelines when designing your project.

    Here is an example: http://www.kidlink.org/KIDPROJ/grandmother

  3. Once your project has been approved by the KIDPROJ team we will send your project announcement and description to the Kidlink announcement list.

  4. Project messages should be sent to Kidproj but some teachers will want to post the work of their students directly in KidSpace. This is fine as long as teachers announce on the Kidproj mailing list that the work of their students is in KidSpace. They should give the URL for their work in this message. Project messages sent to our mailing lists should have the name of the project in the 'subject' line so that mailing list users can see at a glance what the message is about.

  5. Student project work can be posted in KidSpace by their teachers and/or by the students themselves. This cannot happen unless teachers and students have a login and password. Send project registrations to Patti Weeg who will see that your participants have a place in KidSpace and your participating teachers have a KidSpace account.

  6. Now you are ready to moderate your project. It is your responsibility to encourage participation (send prompts if action is slow) and interact with participating students either on the Kidproj mailing list or by posting comments in KidSpace.

If your project includes graphics make sure your participants do not send them across KIDPROJ.

  7. Our team is always around to help. ;-) Don't be afraid to ask.

    Many thanks!
